King Sagar was one of the ancestors of Lord Ram.He was the King of very big state,His state had boundaries far away from each other.He wanted to be a Chakrvarti Samrat{All small states surrender to him} So he organised {Ashwmedh Yagya} Hard prayers in which a horse covers running the whole state and the land outside,and if any king stops the horse,he will have to fight with the King’s big army who’s horse was that.If he wins he can stay free,otherwise he had to surrender.No king came ahead to fight with King Sagar.King Sagar’s name and fame spread all over,seeing this Lord Indra felt jealous.Whenever any king’s name ,fame,popularity’s news reached to Indra,he used to feel scared, that he may conquer his Heaven’s throne.Indra got scared but he did not have courage to fight with King Sagar.So he changed his get-up and stolen King Sagar’s horse and tied it far away at Kapil Muni’s Aashram{Saints and their students live for prayers}Kapil Muni was in “Samadhi”{Very hard Prayers,without food, water ,or sleep}so he could not know what happened and who did it.When Sagar’s soldiers got up in the morning,they found the horse was not there,they searched here and there but did not find the horse then they had to tell King Sagar.King Sagar thought”Any King who stops the horse,fights boldly”This is the work of a fraud thief.He sent his all sons to find the horse.They all were brave and determined.The reached Kapil Muni’s aashram,they saw Kapil Muni was in Samadhi and the horse was tied with a tree.Each Prince was surprised and also very angry.They said”This Rishi is a thief ,we must teach him a lesson.They started abusing Kapil Muni loudly,this disturbed Kapil Muni,and he came out of his Samadhi,he just had a look with anger towards them,and they all turned into ashes.
When they did not reach,King Sagar got worried,he sent his grand son Anshuman to search them,he aso reached at Kapil Muni’s Aashram,he saw four heaps of ash,and the horse,He asked Muni about them.Kapil Muni said”Don’t feel sad,it was GOD’S wish,You can take back the horse,go,and complete the “Yagya”.Anshuman said”Above all Please tell me the way for their” Mukti”{Peace for soul}Kapil Muni said”For that it is necessary to Please Brahma and bring Ganga river on earth,Their souls will get peace only with the touch of Ganga river.Hearing this Anshuman took the horse,went home,told each and every thing to King Sagar,and went to Himalaya for hard Prayers to bring Ganga on the earth.He could not be able to Please Brahma,his life finished but Ganga did not come on earth,After him,his son King Dilip did the same,after him,his son Bhagirath decided not to die till Ganga does not arrive on the earth.He did hard prayers,Indra’s throne started moving.He immediately called Naarad,and asked him to stop Bhagirath.Naarad went to Himalaya and asked him to stop “Tapasya”Bhagirath said”I am doing it for my ancestors’Peace .Naarad understood that he will not stop.Naarad went to Indra and conveyed,Then all GODS went to Brahma ,Brahma reached Himalaya and asked Bhagirath to wish any thing.Bhagarath said “I want to take Ganga on the earth “Brahma said”It is not possible,because Ganga’s force will take her under the earth”Bhagirath asked”Please tell me how can we make the force less?”Brahma said”Only Lord Shiva could make the force less”Bhagirath reached Lord Shiva and prayed him to make Ganga’s force less”Lord Shiva agreed,he stood on the highest peak of Himalaya,Brahma poured the Ganga from his “Kamandal”{A Pot which Rishi Muni Keep}Lord Shiva hold it in his big and long hair,the force became less,Tears came out from Bhagirath’s eyes”Ganga said”Your efforts brought me on the earth,I will also be known as “Bhagirathi”
