Like me and my husband spending retired life many are such examples. Now a days life is completely changed. Children- if daughters , get married and go to their in laws house, but mostly they are not found there also because maximum educated and career oriented do jobs, might be out of town or out of country with her husband and family. Same thing happens with son and daughter in law also and so the old couple, whether they are son’s parents or daughter’s parents stay behind alone. As we all know the first and second generation after independence family structure was different, it was combined family, in which males used to work and earn in fields owned by themselves or in own shops, and females used to do household works.In Indian families food was cooked twice a day ( do waqt ki roti describes this) so after lunch approximately at 12 old ladies used to go to the near by temples for keertan , each lady used to have manjeera in their cotton bag. 12 to 4 all ladies got busy singing bhajans , males used to have nap or reading newspaper or good books ( they used to become members of libraries, those days they had have facilities of getting books at their door steps through these home delivery libraries) females were mostly uneducated so they didn’t have this option. Then development brought tv and people had have a good common entertainment. Now a days we have internet and smart phones for using different entertaining social networking sites. We all know for children it’s addiction bringing bad results, and yes children should have a timetable a discipline to use smart phones, because their main work is to study. But for lonely couples this is a blessing. They can spend good time with smart phones. They can get connected with many friends and relatives on these platforms, share their happy moments of parties picnics or near or far tours, they share their birthday celebration and anniversary celebrations. In fact husband and wife don’t need each other’s company all the time because they are busy with their phones. The good part of this is they become good companions of each other’s , cooperative in all works equally, they don’t have time to argue or fight with each other. The best part is - one day when one of them will leave the world, I think other one won’t feel very lonely because his or her phone is with them. Their complete day occupied with walk , yoga , watching tv , or with smart phone. Most of them pray to GOD for welfare and good health of their children and their own good health too. I think smart phone is a blessing for old people, those who never knew operating this also like to watch reels and funny videos. Technology moving ahead and might bring some more and thrilling inventions for next generation of old people.!!
