Whenever Chandan Singh visited the village riding on his white horse, people of the village and surrounding villages, respected him bowling their heads and holding their chappals ( footwear made by waste tires — commonly used by poor people those days ) in hands , as , wearing chappals in front of the land lord was disrespecting him. Shamu was always with Chandan Singh during such rides. Chandan Singh’s haveli was like a king’s palace. His wife Kamini Devi was very beautiful. He had a daughter of age seventeen, more beautiful fair and sharp featured named Kavita Chaudhary. She was never sent outside , she was getting tuitions at the haveli by an Anglo Indian lady named Samantha Jones. Only on very few occasions Kamini Devi and Kavita accompanied Chanda Singh to attend any function or ceremony, wedding or birthdays of Chandan Singh’s friend circle of the same status in surrounding villages. Chandan Singh was a strict disciplined person so all the servants and maids were in disciplined at work.For all servants there were small quarters at the back side of haveli. —- Continued ——
