In India we mostly did have combined families where old grandparents were taken care by children and children used to do all duties about earning money and bear the expanses. Grand Parents had to supervise only everything. Grand children were taken care by Grand parents and this thing built a value based Personality.In UK Children brought up making them independent or very little children by Nannies if Parents are working so the development at both the palaces were different. In UK old people were and are taken care by Government in Nursing homes and Now a days the number of Old age homes is increasing in India too and here also Most of Parents are kept there by depositing money by children or in many cases Old people if they have money they themselves go and enroll their names there because if children are doing jobs in foreign countries how would they manage themselves on their own.
