Shankh and Likhit were two Munies.They were real brothers,and living in different Aashrams.Both were religious and very intelligent in religious knowledge.They wrote “Smrities”.Shankh was elder brother and Likhit was younger brother.One day Likhit Muni reached to meet his elder brother Shankh Muni.At that time Shankh Muni was not there in the Aashram,he had gone to the forest.Likhit Muni was hungry,he plucked a fruit from the tree and started eating,at the same time Shankh Muni reached there,he became very happy to see his younger brother,but when he saw fruit in his hand,he felt sad,he asked”Likhit ! From where you have plucked this fruit?”Likhit Muni said”This is from your Aashram’s tree.I plucked it.”
Shankh Muni asked”If some one takes another thing without his permission,what would it be called?”Likhit Muni said”Theft”Shankh Muni said”If some one steals some thing what should he do?”Likhit Muni said”He must go to the king and tell his crime,and accept his punishment.Because punishment makes him pure,otherwise he will have to face more big punishment after death.”Shankh Muni said”You have stolen the fruit so,Now you go to the king and get your punishment.”Likhit Muni went to the King.The King wanted to welcome him properly,but he did not accept and asked him to punish for his crime.He describe every thing”The King said”Kings punish,but they can excuse also,so I have excused you”Likhit Muni said”Munies make the rules and laws of Dharmshastra{Religious books}and Kings and other People must follow them.I have come here to get punishment,I don’t want to be excused.”The King had to listen him”To Cut both the hands”was the punishment for theft in those days.so the king asked his man to cut Likhit Muni’s hands”He came back to to Shankh Muni’s Aashram”Shankh Muni hugged him and said “Go to the river and have bath before lunch”Likhit Muni went to the river,and he found his both the hands attached to his body as before”He under stood that it was all done by by his elder brother,He came back to Aashram and asked his brother”If wanted to give back my hands why didn’t you cut them here?Shankh Muni said”To Punish People is King’s job,No body has right to do this,but to bless someone is always good,and I blessed you with your hands”
