A village living lady Kanti Devi was left by her husband Sumer Singh, As even after three years of married life she didn't became mother. She was now living alone in a hut. She had no one in the world as after her marriage her poor father Bherusingh also left the world.Her husband was also a farmer.Now she was in need to earn for herself. She went to Sarpanch Malkhan Singh requesting allow her working in his farm and give some grains so that she could feed herself. He said OK ,She went to his farm ,many people were working there.She came back home in the evening. Someone knocked her door late at night,It was dark he pushed her inside,and then he physically abused her ,she couldn't oppose.
He was Sarpanch and then she was raped by many powerful persons of that village. Whole night one after another was coming and going. At last Malkhansingh himself came in and threatened her ," Don't tell this to anyone,otherwise you will be killed.Let this continue. No one else will come on his own , I will come first and then I would allow anyone if I wish.
Kanti devi had no way to go ,she was an uneducated lady ,she didn't know any law and legal rights. Many villages in India used to be ruled by Khap Panchayat for such family matters.
But It was gone beyond Kanti Devi's limits.One early morning,she started running towards, she decided either she will get the justice or will suicide.She ran about seven Kilometres while one Town Girl Sushmita Roy who was passing through that way by her scooter, She got down ,she helped her sitting at the back seat. Kanti Devi told her, in brief, Sushmita straight way took her to the Police station.She described every thing to the Inspector Jiya Kohli,She heard patiently,and called Dora. Dora came there,with Rohan. They at first decided to do medical test. Dora took herself with a lady Police constable, The investigation was done DNA test showed the hard and brutal continuous Physical abuse with her. It was a criminal offence, But to arrest powerful persons of village was very tough,So they went with a big Police Force there, All the suspects were arrested, Kanti Devi recognised them, Criminal case was filed against all of them.Kanti Devi was sent to Nirmal Chhaya { House for such women} they do works there like handycrafts there and earn money,its a safe shelter for such women.
