In 11th Century ,under King Anawartha ‘s monarchy, Buddhism got flourished in Burma.Temples and Pagodas built ,Later on British took advantage of country’s instability and after three big wars it was brought under British rule .Buddhist monks started movements against British rule ,then students made it strong and in 1947 Burma became free. But civil wars never stopped and still on in border areas and most basic rights do not exist. Millions people have been forced to flee, and they scattered all over the world .
My story is about a boy Balraj came to India at the age of nine .His four maternal uncles remained there but Balraj’s father Mr.Shivam felt himself and his family in secured there and came to India.Balraj, his mother Savitri and Mr.Shivam came to India.Their ancestral property ,A house and a small piece of land laying there. One of their old widow maid Annamma was taking care of that property .When they reached back she felt very happy ,she was above 80 and now not feeling able to complete this responsibility .She felt relaxed, after giving it back to the family .Mom & Dad felt very happy getting back their property safe after many years .Though they were in touch of Annamma through letters written by them rarely but promptly and sincerely responded by Annamma ,as she used to take help by a postman Ramanna to write the reply .Balraj felt un familier here as he did not know Tamil language he knew Burmese only.He used to miss his friends of school and neighbour hood .
Here also he found friends big house ,big fields ,nature’s beauty, but he liked Annamma the most .She was very affectionate towards him he was not understanding her words but could very well understand her love.
He got admission in school .Slowly he started understanding Tamil. He felt this was a very tough language but Mom & Dad were speaking it very smoothly was great surprise for him. They never spoke this language in Burma. But any how he started responding very slowly .Annamma was his main teacher ,she used to teach him by showing objects and naming them, and by doing actions and naming them,by expressing emotions and naming them.Time was passing smoothly while that unfortunate day appeared .Balraj was coming back from school and it was his daily routine to go Annamma’s small room first which was at the outer part of the main house with separate entrance .When Balraj entered there he found her laying on the floor,he called her twice thrice very hard but she did not react .Balraj’s brain was working fast now –What should he do now ? Should he go and call his Mom and Dad ?or should he shout or scream so that people come and help, but he did not do any of the two ,He had seen the only hospital of the village near by,he used to see the doctor there ,he ran to the hospital and described any how in broken Tamil and English mixture ,Doctor immediately sent a stretcher and two ward boys with him they brought Annamma carefully to the hospital it was a heart attack ,Annamma was given basic treatment there and then shifted to the town for further treatment .She was saved ,next day Balraj went to the town to see Annamma in the hospital,Annamma came to know every thing ,When Balraj and Annamma saw each other no words they could speak, only tears were rolling from four eyes expressing,Affection and Respect, together.
