Leela—4
It was 1937 while again my Grandma went to Calcutta{Kolkata}with all little children,Leela denied said,”No,I won’t go with you ,I can’t afford loss of studies,Can any one imagine a just ten year girl is not interested in going with Mom to visit Kolkota. She stayed with two elder brothers there. There was a lady cook used to be there and she also stayed there.Leela preferred to sleep with her during some other guest’s visit and stay. She was very alert and careful about her self.
I don’t know what the date was but it was a big Earthquake, and the three siblings tried to open the lock to go out,but the door was tied with a big thick chain round and round so many times that it took a long time to get it untied, one was opening and other two were waiting to get it opened, but when they opened it till that time the Earthquake stopped.
Leela liked sweets mostly Jalebi and Imarti were favourite sweets. She liked eating jalebi and for that she used to ride bicycle from Snehlataganj’s house to far away sweet shop. Most of the times Grandma’s asked her to buy Jalebi and the shopkeeper used to give her a thick and big Jalebi for her in a different packed. My Grandma was habituated chewing betel leaf, and she used to request Leela to buy Betel leaves for her,Saying “Aamaar Lokkhee Mey “{ My Good Daughter} Leela loved her whole family very much specially her parents,This I felt in her last days while she started speaking Bengali and said to me,”Maa ne bola hai abhi thodi der se aana’Tears are rolling down on my cheeks while I am writing this as I also loved her very much,I miss her,I can never forget her.
