Lacchhi was living in a country side village with her Parents.Her Parents,Birju and Kanta were doing daily wages work at a construction site under an agent who used to take commission for such work,in other words they were spending their days in poverty.Lacchhi was just eight years old.One man Vishnu ,their neighbour ,who was working in Metropolitan town,last night arrived back.He was familiar to Birju and Kanta so they had their dinner together.All of them were talking about the price rise.Birju suggested them to send Lacchhi with him he will place her to any good family for house hold works,she will have food and clothing ,and they can earn good money.Both of them trusted Vishnu and agreed.Next morning Vishnu took her to the town.
He brought her to a posh area's multi storey building containing about hundred flats.He brought her to sixth floor.He rang the bell. The door was opened by a lady.In that house one couple Mr.Suresh and Mrs.Salini Dutta were living with their eight years daughter Dolly,studying in a Convent school.Both of them were working,and morning nine to evening six used to be in their offices.They had taken the facility of after school for their daughter,so they all come together in the evening.
Vishnu went after leaving Lacchhi there.Lacchhi's hard time started now.All the work excluding cooking,washing clothes,cleaning and ironing clothes are now her responsibilities .Shanti a lady used to come to cook food every morning at seven. The couple was very hard and harsh.She was not given the food they were eating,instead of that she was given wheat flour just to cook one chapati,no vegetables nothing else.
They had installed C.C.T.V. Cameras to keep keen eye on her,that Lacchhi came to know soon when she was slapped because she ate the left over from Dolly's plate.
She was missing her parents but there was no way.
One day They said they are going abroad for fifteen days and she has to stay home,she was given wheat flour { Very small quantity } in a container.In a week the flour finished,all the cupbords and fridge was locked,two days she spent without food.
Next day she was standing near window,while she saw Shanti going on the road.She shouted hard as she was on sixth floor.She said "Save me,Help me " Shanti heard,she knew Dora's number ,She called her,Dora and Rohan informed the Police station,Police party helped Lacchhi come down through fire brigade's ladders,and called her parents,Vishnu was arrested,and Mr.& Mrs.Dutta were informed by their relative and they came earlier and arrested at the airport. Their C.C.T.V. was the big evidence against them.Police came to know that Vishnu sold Lacchhi for big amount to that family and it was his business.Lacchhi's parents came and took her to village.
